Vogue Tribute To Black Beauties

blackness!!

Will not dare get too dug into detail or debate on this topic firstly coz its been done to death, secondly don't think i could adequately cover it all as there is not firm stand point on it and thirdly but mainly it's late and my brain starts shutting down at 22.00hrs. The topic is BLACKNESS or being black. This question of are black women trying to be white or is it just the modern age we live in. A sure point of discussion that comes with this line of questioning is weaves,oh yes i said it.Are black girls trying to be white when they stitch those on or just following in the footsteps of history's iconic glamorous black women who also dabbled in the hair trend. Lord knows that aint Beyonce's hair!!Personally i do think it outrageous for one to say you wanna be white all on account of the fact that i gotta a weave on. Never have i woken up and declared, "Today i wanna be white"and despite the term given to me of "coconut" will say i am very proud of being black, being an African. Another question comes up of what is being back? Is it just a matter of the colour of your skin,a biological thing or is it more culture, gotta act and be a certain way? I would really love to know who invented the yardstick to measure how black a person is or how beautiful one is. Like i said this topic has BEEN discussed for ages and will continue to be. Ima just say that identity is very hard to construct sometimes we don't know it's building. Its hard enough to wake up in the morning and just be you never mind having to fit it in with all the gender stereotypes or racial stereotypes. Somewhere Somehow it all does come to a balance i believe and cliche as it sounds you gotta just be secure in who you are. I could have derailed alot haha from the beginning of what we were talking about but quite sure there is a chain of thought under it all. I just wanna end with a quote i heard today in the mist of discussion about racial beauty, style and eurocentric values the world now has in terms of well everything. "Beauty is not in a vacuum there is always a context to it. The look you going for has been shaped."

"BEAUTY IS NOT IN A VACUUM THERE IS ALWAYS A CONTEXT TO IT.THE LOOK YOU GOING FOR HAS BEEN SHAPED."

I did say i wont be able to answer all the questions in fact I'm still tryna figure myself out.Yet it is something deep to ponder upon.

that vs that

inspiring random ish

TECHNOLOGY the TERMINATOR

All this starting a blog seemed really exciting but now it just dawned upon me that the experience of it is just putting me head to head with one of my enemies of the 21st Century-technology! The warfare between me and the machine was officially declared a war in grade 11 when i failed Information Technology. Of course daddy dearest was stunned exclaiming,"We have a computer at home. What went wrong?" to this i gave a sheepish smile internally thinking you don't know the little monsters. i have always had a theory about technology especially computers and it was way before watching any of the terminator movies. The terminator movies simply confirmed my theory. Technology is gonna take over the world and not in the good sense you maybe thinking. I do sincerely believe computers will become smarter than us one day and to this you may argue nothing ever beats the creator which is quite valid and true yet all the great minds behind our technology is passing away. Take Steve Jobs (Lord bless his soul) and people keep adding on new stuff, new advances nowadays you really cant assign an invention to one man. Do you think Henry Ford would be able to drive our cars? Technology can be quite a wonderful thing i wouldn't be able to blog without it. For me its our constant and growing reliability on it that encourages laziness and takes away classic beauty of being. When was the last time you wrote a letter? i know one of the first things i do when i wake up is check whats new on twitter. When i put jokes aside and actually think about it and call me crazy it scares the jebbies out of me. Hence i have decided to do the brave thing and take on the mission of finishing Sarah Connor's job. Watching Terminator two,wow her character was amazing for lack of a better word. Inspiring strong woman fighting for what she believes. To this day her escape from the asylum remains one of my favourite scenes from an action movie (starts a slow clap with tears in my eyes). I am defiantly not as physically strong as her but i consider myself a prodigy as i am continuing on her legacy of making the world aware of the potential dangers of technology that at present seem far fetched. there is soo much more to write but i think yol get the point. It will not be the last i mention of it.

thee allsorts

 The Allsorts
High school was a year ago approximately yet there are still "childish"things i will forever carry in my memories such as our group name. If you didn't have a name or some sort of motto in your group than I'm sorry to say that you missed the fun of high school friendships. We were called the "Allsorts" named after these delicious fruity treats all eight of us seemed to be addicted to. Besides our common taste in sweets the other motivation behind the title was the fact that we were the only multi-racial group in the whole grade therefore we felt like a mixture of allsorts. So after much deliberation at breaks shouting over each other and shooting down ideas we dubbed ourselfs to be the Allsorts. Another thing about the allsorts sweet brand is that it also comprises of liquorich. That liquorich fact only become important to us when in typical high school style sh!t happened and the group broke up.Obvious the name could not continue especially since the group broke into "black"and "white". The pride of us being a make of allsorts was diminished. The spirit of the allsorts did not completly disapper a spin off was the creation of the "Liquorice"quite appropriate for the "black"group we thought and still linked to our favourite treat as explained before. Things did eventually get sorted out although it was never excatly the same. High school is over now yet there is a spirit of the allsorts that never goes away (man we were an awesome bunch!) and the "liquorich" is still going strong since we (the black part of the group) all moved to Joburg for University. With all this history behind the names and continuing friendships i hence took it as inspiration for this blog. Its not just a reliving of beautiful meomories but a celebration of youth, friendships and self. To say the least this blog is about looking forward to the memories of right now! Permission to go all metphorical on you. Life is a bunch of allsorts, all sorts of people, all sorts of experiences, all sorts of places and sometimes it doesnt go your way. The fruitness or sweetness that might have been there is gone and maybe can't be restored. In other words in your packet of Allsorts you may just be left with black liquorich (and lets be honest that aint the tastiest thing) yet you gotta roll with it. I leave you with this, something a fellow Allsort's mother told me,sometimes i don't get the quote and other times its the most enlightening words of that moment. . .

"It takes allsorts to make liqourich"

Liquorich,we know Sanci Indian but somehow she counted black
